Deradicalization

The cognitive process through which an individual abandons their extremist identity and worldview. This generally involves an attitudinal change. (Horgan & Braddock, 2010; Schuurman & Bakker, 2015)

Disengagement

The behavioral change whereby individuals withdraw from violent behavior and/or a group involved in violent extremism (Horgan & Braddock, 2010; Reinares, 2011)

Reintegration

The re-establishment of positive social, economic, familial, and community ties (Holmer & Shtuni, 2017)
